K. La Rose, Senior Manager of Water/Wastewater Services, presented information regarding ongoing challenges of siting a sani-dump in the Comox Valley and proposed next steps following the announcement of the planned closure of the Village of Cumberland’s sani-dump facility. [Item] |

K. Grant/J. Kerr: THAT the City of Courtenay be requested to work with the Comox Valley Regional District to undertake due diligence for a sani-dump facility at Dove Creek Place and report back as soon as possible with the intention of having the facility in place by summer 2024 unless substantive concerns or unexpected permit requirements arise through this due diligence, which will include:
• Preliminary design and cost estimate
• Traffic impact assessment
• Review of potential permits
• Engagement with the property owner at the end of Dove Creek Place;
AND FURTHER THAT staff be directed to work with City of Courtenay and Town of Comox staff to identify locations within the City and Town road rights of way that could accommodate a temporary sani-dump in the event that a permanent facility isn’t in place for summer 2024;
AND FINALLY THAT staff report back with the results of the engagement and due diligence with a recommended path forward. |
