The Board rose from its in-camera session at 4:00 pm. The open meeting resumed at 4:09 pm.
 
 
RECOGNITION OF TRADITIONAL TERRITORIES:
The Chair acknowledged that the meeting was being held on the unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation and read the following Call to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action report:

Call to Action 50 - Equity for Aboriginal People in the Legal System:

In keeping with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, we call upon the federal government, in collaboration with Aboriginal organizations, to fund the establishment of Indigenous law institutes for the development, use, and understanding of Indigenous laws and access to justice in accordance with the unique cultures of Aboriginal peoples in Canada.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES:
DELEGATION FOLLOW UP - GREEN BURIALS
 
 
J. Warren, Chief Administrative Officer, provided a verbal update on the delegation from Janet O’Dell requesting that the CVRD designate special areas or set aside land for green burials.
 
 
DELEGATION FOLLOW UP - COMOX VALLEY FARMERS INSTITUTE (CVFI)
 
 
J. Warren, Chief Administrative Officer, provided a verbal update on the delegation from Niki Whittaker, Comox Valley Farmers Institute, requesting that the CVRD partner with the CVFI to support their application to the Farm Credit Canada Agri-Spirit Fund.
 
 
V. Brown/E. Grieve: THAT staff prepare a report on the implications of the CVRD partnering with the Comox Valley Farmers Institute (CVFI) to support CVFI's application to the Farm Credit Canada Agri-Spirit Fund as requested by the CVFI delegation at the May 28, 2024 Board meeting.

Sarah Cavanagh, Senior Negotiator, Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, with Marie-Luise Ermisch, Sarah Plank, and Jessica Jamieson, provided an update on treaty negotiations with K’ómoks First Nation. [Item
